James A. Ownbey collection.

The collection includes 44 photographs, 28 of which are family photos of James A. Ownbey, his wife Pearl Gaynor Ownbey, sons Donald and James Ownbey, and other unidentified family members and friends. Sixteen photographs are of the Wooton Land and Fuel Company, Wooton, Colorado (near Trinidad) which was owned jointly by Ownbey and J.P. Morgan. James A. ("Colonel") Ownbey moved west to Colorado with his family in 1870. He represented J. P. Morgan's mining interests in the state for many years and in 1906 founded the Wootton Land and Fuel Company to develop coal fields in southern Colorado.
